When it involves diabetes new research findings are always welcome news. It was announced just a few weeks ago that the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation has given 2 scientists a $1.2 million dollar grant. This funding is  to help them continue their studies concerning intestinal hormones and their effects on obesity and pre-diabetic individuals.

It is believed that one of these hormones, Glucagon-like-Peptide-1, can be used to help the researchers understand how diabetes originates and allow them to study its progression within the human body. Through this program it is hoped that scientists will be able to create new diagnostic tools and intervention measures that can prevent or treat both pre-diabetes and Type 2 (adult onset) diabetes.

Incretin hormone studies are very promising for those with Type 2 diabetes. This is a boost for those involved in the field of diabetes new research. Many scientists are declaring that they are now much closer to finding a cure for this disease. GLP-1 and other hormonal based research have produced some treatment options that can boost the metabolism of glucose by the body. And it may soon be possible to effectively increase the mass of beta cells. Both of these factors are crucial elements and they may be the backbone of a future cure for diabetes.

A great deal of diabetes new research  studies continue to be funded by the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation, This organization was created 15 years ago and it was established with the goal of raising enough money to conduct nationwide research dedicated to finding a real cure for diabetes. In May 2009 it was announced that high triglyceride levels can predict nerve loss in diabetic individuals.
